The OCFF Board of Directors is a dedicated and enthusiastic group of volunteers, elected democratically by the membership via advanced balloting during the summer and at the annual conference in October. Directors serve a three-year term. The Executive Committee is elected by the directors, and each position on the Executive Committee is held for one year.

The four new OCFF Directors are:

• David Newland, Toronto
• Kathy Partridge, Cobourg
• Bill Stunt, Ottawa

Paul Mills

Paul Mills, paul@themillstream.com, term ends 2010

Paul has been part of the Canadian folk music scene for over thirty years. He has produced more than 130 albums working with artists like Stan Rogers, Sharon, Lois and Bram, and Ron Hynes. He is a founding partner of Borealis Records and operates his own recording studio, The Millstream. He is also a performing songwriter, instrumentalist and sometime children’s entertainer.

Scott Merrifield, smerrifield@eastlink.ca, term ends 2012

A founder and past Artistic Director of Northern Lights Festival Boreal, Scott was also involved in OCFF in its early days and gave workshops at early conferences. Since 1992, he has been presenting 6-10 house concerts per year in Sudbury. Scott retired from his job as Director of Policy & Planning for FedNor in 2008 after 33 years in the federal public service, delivering community-based social and economic development programs throughout Northern Ontario, including extensive work with Aboriginal communities. He and his wife manage a family cottage resort business on Manitoulin Island in the summer.

Bill Stunt

Bill Stunt, bill_stunt@cbc.ca, term ends 2012

The Production Manager of the CBC Radio Music Department, Bill oversees the planning and implementation of all major initiatives in the music department for Radio 2.  He manages the digital services for the department as well as the network's website and leads the program development process for all of the new Radio 2 shows including Drive, Deep Roots, Tonic, The Signal, etc. Bill was a producer in the department for 20 years, producing concert recordings from most of the top artists in Canada with a particular interest in roots music. He had a significant hand in promoting a whole generation of Canadian roots musicians and hosted many CBC shows including Bandwidth, Heartland and Global Village. 

David Newland

David Newland, david.newland@gmail.com, term ends 2012

David Newland is the Editor-in-Chief at Canoe.ca. He has appeared at numerous Ontario festivals as a singer-songwriter, host and performer. David is a Director of the Shelter Valley Folk Festival, host of the Gordon Lightfoot tribute concert series and a co-founder of the Corktown Ukulele Jam.

Katherine Partridge

Katherine Partridge, katharine.partridge@sympatico.ca, term ends 2012

Katharine is a founder of Shelter Valley Folk Festival. She volunteered as business and production manager for its first five years and served as Chair of its inaugural board. She has given presentations on governance, board/staff relationships, and green initiatives at OCFF and Folk Alliance conferences. Katherine is a communications and stakeholder engagement specialist, managing a Toronto-based boutique consultancy advising international clients on sustainability issues. In past lives, she was a journalist and prior to that a production stage manager for Canadian theatres.

Richard Flohil Richard Flohil, rflohil@sympatico.ca, term ends 2010

Richard has worked full-time in the music industry as a writer, editor, publicist and concert promoter for some 40 years. A former festival artistic director and event coordinator (Mariposa, Southern Comfort Blues Festival), he continues to work with a wide variety of roots music artists, from Loreena McKennitt to Downchild, from Justin Rutledge to Jeff Healey. He was the 2006 recipient of the OCFF's
Estelle Klein Award.
Dan Greenwood Dan Greenwood, greenwoodd@socan.ca, term ends 2011

Dan Greenwood, inspired by his passion for music, has worked on behalf of songwriters and publishers for over twenty-five years in various roles at SOCAN, Canada's performing rights organization. He is currently responsible for strategic & corporate planning and operational change (re-engineering), in the role of Vice-President of Corporate Planning and Business Change at SOCAN.

Tamara Kater

Tamara Kater, tkater@winnipegfolkfestival.ca, term ends 2011

Daughter of an instrument-builder father and a community activist mother, Tamara grew up surrounded by musicians and people building community organizations. A passionate music enthusiast, Tamara has worked in arts management and community outreach for more than a decade. Within the folk music circle, Tamara has worn the hat of agent, artist manager and festival director. She currently serves as the Executive Director of the Winnipeg Folk Festival.
Dan Kershaw Dan Kershaw, kershawd@socan.ca, term ends 2010

Dan brings the experience of a life all wormy with guitars and records to his role as a Customer Service Representative in the Concerts Licensing Department of SOCAN, along with many years as a production coordinator at Massey Hall and Roy Thomson Hall. In addition, Dan writes and performs with Juno-nominated The Brothers Cosmoline, and was the 2002 winner of the OCFF Songs from the Heart songwriting competition. Dan is a passionate believer in the power of late ‘50s Gibson flat-tops.

Larry LeBlanc

Larry LeBlanc, ljle@aol.com, term ends 2011

Larry LeBlanc's roots in Canada's folk community reach back to the late '60s when he contributed to such CBC Radio programs as Sunday & Friends, Folk Circle and Touch the Earth. The relationship deepened in the 1970s while he was music producer of CBC-Radio's Morningside and Dayshift programs. Canadian bureau chief of Billboard from 1991-2007, Larry was also the co-founder of the late Canadian music trade publication, The Record. He has been a regular music commentator on Canada A.M. for 35 years, and his byline has appeared in over a thousand publications, including Rolling Stone, Guitar Player, and Maclean's.  With his wife, radio promoter Anya Wilson, Larry also operates the publishing firm Brycemoor Music.
Paul Loewenberg Paul Loewenberg, paulfromsudbury@sympatico.ca, term ends 2010

Paul has served on the OCFF’s Board of Directors for the past five years. He books one of Canada's best-known live music venues, The Townehouse Tavern, and is the Chair and Artistic Director for the Northern Lights Festival Boreal.
Nicole Rochefort Nicole Rochefort, nicolerochefort@hotmail.com, term ends 2010

Presently the Director of Touring Operations for Kids’ Entertainment (Toronto), Nicole has been contributing to the Canadian performing arts industry since 2000. Her past experience includes Performing Arts & Community Coordinator for the Living Arts Centre in Mississauga, production assistance, stage management, and artist development. As a booking agent with LiveTourArtists, Nicole represented Canadian recording artists of various musical genres, as well as corporate clients for special event bookings. Nicole is an Honours Graduate from The Harris Institute for the Arts (Toronto), where she is now an instructor.
Jan Vanderhorst Jan Vanderhorst, justusfolk@rogers.com, term ends 2010

Jan has hosted Just Us Folk on CKPC-FM 92.1 in Brantford since 1981. The show's focus is on acoustic roots music, both traditional and contemporary. During these 26 years, Jan has interviewed established and up-and-coming performers at festivals and in studio. He has also written artist profiles for Fast Folk Musical magazine and Tower of Babel.com.

Aengus Finnan

Aengus Finnan, term ends 2010

Aengus is a songwriter, educator, and entrepreneur who has been part of the OCFF community for the past 10 years. He released two acclaimed recordings (Fools Gold - 1998, & North Wind - 2002), produced or co-produced numerous events and recordings, is the founder and Artistic Director of the Shelter Valley Folk Festival, and is the owner of the Lawless Gallery of Fine Art, which also serves as a concert venue. An advocate of cultural outreach Aengus initiated the OCFF's signature Art Beat community program. He is currently the Program Manager for the Ontario Self Employment Benefits office of the Northumberland Community Futures Development Corporation.
